In June of 1998, the State Council of the People's Republic of China approved the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) to launch the Pilot Project of Knowledge Innovation Program as one of the reform measures to build up the National Knowledge Innovation System and to promote the innovations in science and technology. CAS decided to establish the Academy of Opto-Electronics (AOE) and the Optoelectronic Technologies Group in September of 2000. Members of the group include Changchun Research Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics, Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics, Xi'an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics, Shanghai Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics, Chendu Institute of Optics and Electronics, and more than 30 optoelectronic enterprises related to above institutes. The group's headquarter is located in Beijing, the Capital of China.
